Docklights like the incandescent bulb have
not changed much over the years, they are bulky, inefficient, fragile and
dangerous! Let's now look at the negatives of common dock
lights
Bulky - often large architectural fittings
designed for use in a static environment on the outside of a building are
mounted on a pivot arm
Inefficient - some lamps use as much as
250 watts of power
Fragile - most products have a glass lens
which is easily damaged, and above are architectural fittings used where they
were never designed to be used.
Dangerous -
- Electric shock
risk where a mains powered lamp extended on metal arm is at risk of
collision with metal objects or people.
- The risk of burns where
surface temperatures of halogen lamps can exceed many hundreds of degrees
c
- Colour light is very yellow
and intense leading to artificial dark areas
Quality - poorly made and designed,
lacking durability and longevity
Value for money – LEDS are rated at 40,000
hours but will last much longer. Cheaper to run – up to fives times much more
energy efficient than halogen or incandescent light
sources
DiscoverLEDs have combined the expertise
of two established manufacturers and combined them together to offer
what we believe to be one of the safest, effective and most energy efficient
loading bay lights on the market today. We also believe in offering the
customer a choice instead of forcing a single product upon
them.
The arm – originally designed for one of
the top grocery / supermarkets in the UK in order to address some of the
concerns above. Consists of a durable mounting base with heavy duty pivots.
Metal finished rather than powder coat increases product life span and it may
seem insignificant but enhances appearance – do you really want some rusty piece
of metal sticking at the wall where your food is being delivered? The arm
contains protected within its base a double insulated transformer which has a
voltage input range of 100 – 270 volts AC so can be used anywhere in the world
without modification or the purchase of additional power supplies. The output is
safe low voltage DC so even in the event of an accident with the light head the
risk of shock is eliminated.
The light – LED product pioneered in the
1990’s for the materials handling industry, and designed in accordance with the
requirements of many fork lift manufactures in mind. This fact alone
demonstrates you are getting a product actually designed for this sort of
task. Virtually unbreakable polycarbonate lens on all models, glass is
available as an option on some. The LED units give a much better colour
rendering giving a far more natural light reducing operator fatigue and
enhancing workplace safety.
We offer a choice of beam pattern / light
spread to suit individual requirements and unlike some of our competitors they
are all the SAME price.
Our standard lamp has a power requirement
of 20W as opposed to most others needing between 55 – 70W, for those who want
more performance we have a 40W version which is equivalent to many 150W units
currently on the market.
